Another Doctor's Visit

We had our "well" check-up for Avery's 1 year appointment today...but she is still not "well". We are still fighting fevers, lack of appetite, lack of energy, and general fussiness. When we met with the doctor...he was concerned that Avery is still ill and that she is not responding to medication like she should. After looking at the urine culture that they got on Wednesday...evidently Avery had some blood and protein in her urine....and the culture was growing some bacteria...therefore he believes she has an urinary tract infection. So Avery did not get her 12 months shots because of being so ill...but she got an antibiotic shot. We are going to return on Tuesday for her vaccinations and further information of what type of bacterial infection is in her urine. Evidently, urinary tract infections in little ones under 5 is rare and when they occur...several other tests must be done to determine the cause. So we will be going to UK to have a bladder ultrasound and some tests run on her kidneys to determine if her bladder is refluxing into her kidneys. We do not have this scheduled yet, but will know more when we go to the MD on Tuesday. Please keep her and us in your prayers as we wait patiently for more information.

Good news...she is right on track developmentally for a 12 month old!! She was 29 3/4 long...68th percentile, weight 18 pounds 5 ounces....8th percentile...and 47cm head circumference...92nd percentile. So she is a tall, skinny girl with a very smart head on her shoulders! :) We will keep you posted on her status. Sorry, no pictures lately...hopefully we will get some tomorrow.

Shout out to Mimi & Grandma for watching Avery yesterday and today, so Adam and I could work. We appreciate it greatly!!! Pray that we can go to daycare next week which means she will be feeling better!!!

Emergency Room & Doctor Visit

We monitored Avery's temperature last night and it was 105.7 on our thermometer...so we went to the ER. The ER basically said that they are seeing quite a few infants with high fevers and gave her tylenol...her fever didn't change much so they gave her a large dose of Motrin and we got it to 101.5. So at 2 am we arrived back home with a child that still had a fever and basically were told that this is common among infants right now.

I called our Pediatrician's office this a.m. and spoke with the nurse regarding the fever, issues we had with medication and to reassure that we were doing everything we needed to do. The nurse said if we couldn't get her temperature down with medication then we needed to go see the Pediatrician office. So at 3:30 her temperature was 104 and it had been just 2 hours since her last dose of medicine. Off to the MD office we go.

Here they took chest x-rays...lungs look good! Check blood count....white cells are normal....Try to get a urine sample...they cathed her and got no urine...so we have to try to force water and milk and re-cath her 10 minutes later...still no urine....so we then have to force by syringe pedialyte, water, and milk to get her to get some fluids....cath again and get very little...but enough to do a preliminary test that appears she does not have a urinary tract infection. So we are to give her medicine every 3 hours, check her temperature, and continue to monitor her. The MD believes that this may be a viral infection...roseola...high fever for several days and then a rash will develop. We will not know if this is the case until the rash appears. If her fever does not go down, she must return to the MD tomorrow for another check.

Today Avery played very very little, talked little, and smiled little, but rested most of the day. We will continue to monitor and keep everyone posted on her status!

Phone Calls

When I am at work...my heart always stops for a brief moment when my secretary pages me to take a phone call... "Your Daycare is on the line".... My heart drops down in my stomach....Well at 3:30 today...I got the phone call from daycare. Avery had a 102 fever and was not acting like herself at all. Brenda her teacher gave her tylenol...got it down to 100 degrees and wanted me to know in case I wanted to call her MD. So at 5:00 we went to the MD. He wasn't really sure what was wrong with her but did see some fluid around her left tube...so he put her on an antibiotic and is hoping that this is what is causing the fever. He didn't seem too convincing, but we will take the antibiotic for 10 days and see what happens. We go to the MD for her 1 year check-up on Friday so we will have a re-check at this time. Tubes are suppose to drain, so I don't know why they aren't draining if this is truly the problem. She got a nice warm bath tonight and went to bed after giving her her medicine, but her temperature was 103.8. We are going to monitor her the rest of the evening and even wake to take temperatures to make sure it is staying under control.

Diapers, Diapers, & More Diapers

I moved Avery's diapers to underneath the end table, so we could put her pack-n-play away. I didn't realize that diapers would give her so much entertainment. I would pick them up and turn around and she would be back over to them taking them out. She loves holding onto her Tylenol bottle. She likes to chew on the top of it or just hold it securely in her hand...she is quite obsessive about it actually...cries and gets angry if you take it away. Notice the Tylenol bottle never leaves her hand. She is too funny sometimes! :)

Playing with her Little Piggies!!

Avery has enjoyed playing with her Little Piggies! These are pictures from Monday morning...she was very into figuring out the different house and putting all the piggies from one house to the next. Check her out!

My First Wagon Ride

Check out the cool new Wagon Mimi & Glenn got for Avery! We went on our first ride around the neighborhood last night. She really enjoyed herself! Yes, we took the pink balloon with us around the neighborhood...we are dorks! :) She also held "little piggy" almost the entire ride. :)

Avery's Birthday Dinner!

Avery, Mom, & Dad all took nice naps after the Birthday Party. Then Avery had her Birthday dinner! It was a little bit of everything in the kitchen to see if she would eat any solid food. She did eat some kiwi, pieces of pizza, 1 pea, 1 piece of banana.
After eating we went straight to the bathtub!
