Coach Billy Clyde Gillispie

Kentucky Wildcat basketball ushered in a new era last Friday when it named Billy Gillispie head coach. After Tubby Smith departed for less stress to the land of 10,000 lakes, many were sad. Sure, Tubby was a nice guy. He did a lot for the community. He made you feel like an equal if you ever talked to him in person. He was a father figure to his players. Those things are all well and good.

However, Tubby Smith had faults. Namely, recruiting, team cohesion, passion for coaching, and well...coaching. Basically put, a lot of schools would be happy with 25 losses in two seasons. At Kentucky, that doesn't cut it. A lot of schools would be happy with landing 2 and 3 star recruits, and trying to make those players superstars. At Kentucky, that doesn't cut it. A lot of other schools would be happy with premature defections for chemistry issues (e.g. Crawford, Morris' fax). At Kentucky, well, you get the idea.

Kentucky basketball is the pinnacle. It is the mecca. It is the Roman Empire of college basketball. And, Kentucky got its Camelot.

For all intents and purposes, if you are a fan of Kentucky basketball, you should be excited about this move.
